Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía: a flamenco show at Arteria Paral·lel
Arteria Paral·lel, formerly the Teatro Español, Studio 54 and Scènic, is reopening its doors, this time as a multi-purpose venue. Spread over three floors, it has room for anything from dinners and shows to fashion shows, circus and dance.
Today it held its “unofficial” opening with the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía, dancing Federico García Lorca’s ‘Poema del Cante Jondo en el Café de Chinitas’, directed by Cristina Hoyos.
The programme says: ‘All of us feel Lorca’s words as living things that smell, touch, taste and move. They wound. They are living words, born of the poet’s concern for, contact with and experience of the sound of his land. … Flamenco poisons Lorca, transforms him and carries him to the highest peaks of poetry. That is why our encounter with Poema del Cante Jondo was inevitable. …’ – Cristina Hoyos and José Carlos Plaza.
Personally, I loved it. The staging, the costumes, the music, the choreography and the thunder of the zapateado (the flamenco footwork) are bound to move you. In short, don’t miss it!
Location: Av. Paral·lel 62 (Metro L1 and L3, Paral·lel station), 08001 Barcelona
