The ‘Music Ages’ shop
In this little shop, Music Ages, travelling back to the 1950s is easy. Right in the heart of Gràcia, it’s packed with radios, record players, accessories, photos, adverts, household appliances and so on: all kinds of items from the 1950s in perfect condition that take us back to our grandparents’ day. A genuine museum of the period, laid out like a flea market. However, the main aim of the Valcárcel brothers, who created this space, is not to sell these items but to restore and digitise vinyl records from the 1940s, 50s and 60s, the era when music exploded as a popular phenomenon. With more than 8,000 records, it’s a collection that brings together gems from the golden age of vinyl. The idea is to recover the sound and the designs of that era and capture them digitally.
In their words: ‘With its exclusive high-quality audio restoration system and a design that brings back the original record sleeves, the collection aims to reach the hearts of those who lived through that era and awaken the curiosity of younger people.’
(February 2013) I’ve just found out that the shop no longer exists, but the company does. You can visit the Vintage Music website.
