Parc de l'Oreneta trainParc de l’Oreneta is on one of the slopes of the Collserola hills. It’s a wild park full of Mediterranean vegetation, ideal for escaping the city. Children are the lucky ones here: they have several areas for playing in the dirt and on the swings, but what makes the park unique is that, right at the top, there’s a miniature steam train ride. A train built to children’s scale, with its own driver, tracks, station, ticket office and tunnel, makes this park a one-of-a-kind outing.

The little train at Parc de l'Oreneta

The name Parc de l’Oreneta (it’s actually the Parc del Castell de l’Oreneta) comes from an old farmhouse (masia) of that name that stood in the area. In fact, some walls of the old estate, which belonged to the Tous family, are still standing. The park as a whole, some 17 hectares, was created by joining the land of this farmhouse (the Castell de l’Oreneta) with Can Bonavia, which belonged to the family of Count Milà.

From some spots in the park you get views of the city and of Tibidabo.

This leafy park always brings back lovely childhood memories for me, and I never tire of going back again and again.
