El Canalla restaurant, BarcelonaOne area tourists don’t tend to wander around, mainly because it’s a long way from the centre rather than for any lack of charm, is the Sarrià neighbourhood.

And that’s where you’ll find it, right by Plaça de Sarrià: El Canalla restaurant. A small restaurant, decorated in a laid-back and very witty way, that has managed to draw a pleasant, chic crowd.

The menu is made up of small plates and tapas of the classic kind, such as patatas bravas, huevos estrellados (fried eggs broken over chips) with ham or foie gras, artichoke shavings, and other more elaborate dishes.

Although the place is very small, the space has been divided up very cleverly. You can have a drink at the bar or sit down at a table, more informally or more formally, as you prefer.

With background music, soft lighting and simple decor, it’s a cosy place that I’d thoroughly recommend for dinner or for a beer after work.

What’s more, it’s very good value for money. It comes to around €30 per person, including drinks and dessert.
