La Taverna del Clínic restaurant, BarcelonaSpeaking of tapas… I’ve been meaning to tell you for ages about one of the best places in Barcelona for sharing plates (raciones), ‘La taverna del Clínic’. Although the space isn’t very cosy and the lighting is a bit harsh, the dishes are absolutely superb!! I’ve been back several times and tried different things, and the patatas bravas (the ones in the photo), which are among the best I’ve ever had, and the octopus igloo (iglú de pulpo) are pretty much my must-orders every time I drop by. I’m with tapasBCN on their recommendations! All the other little dishes are delicious too, and I’d suggest ordering according to what’s in season.

The Simôes brothers, who founded the restaurant in 2005, say on the restaurant’s website: ‘Our concept of small portions and the quality of the finest produce was, and still is, what drives our impact on the culinary world and what sets us apart from the rest.’

It isn’t very central, and that makes it a truly local Barcelona spot, away from the usual tourist haunts. Even so, it isn’t that far from the centre either, and a quick hop on the metro gets you there in no time. Do book ahead, though, as it’s always packed.

Here’s the menu. And to find out more, visit La Taverna del Clínic’s website.
