Pepa Croqueta, croquettes in a thousand flavours
Update (Nov 2018): this croquette shop no longer exists. We’re keeping the post, along with others that are now out of date, in ‘Lost Barcelona’
Who doesn’t enjoy a croquette? Although they’re French in origin, we’ve adopted croquettes as if they were our own, and very few traditional or tapas restaurants are without them. Here in Barcelona we found this shop selling handmade croquettes.
The Piera sisters saw an opportunity in croquettes and opened (a couple of months ago now) Pepa Croqueta, a shop selling every kind of croquette, from chicken to brie and truffle, chorizo, camembert and honey, and so on. In fact, they have a surprising range of more than 20 frozen croquettes in packs of 6 or 12.
A pack of 6 basic croquettes costs €4.50 and a pack of 12 costs €8.50. The most expensive ones come to €5.50 for half a dozen and €10.50 for a dozen, and they’re very creative flavours such as pheasant and truffle, or butifarra (Catalan sausage) and parmesan.
And if you’re a true croquette fan, you can even buy a chocolate and orange dessert croquette. Amazing!
They also sell 3 kinds of handmade cannelloni, likewise frozen and well priced.
Let the world of croquettes win you over!
