Small boutique hotels in Barcelona

Barcelona has a huge range of hotels, and sometimes it’s hard to pick one. Here’s a small selection of charming hotels and luxury hotels for anyone who wants to travel to Barcelona as a couple. What makes the selection special is that they are all small hotels with a limited number of rooms, which for me is key to a more memorable stay.

• Hotel Palauet

This is a luxury hotel in a Catalan Art Nouveau (Modernista) building with only six suites. It offers a massage service and has a rooftop terrace. It’s in an exceptional, central location.

From this hotel, La Pedrera is less than 5 minutes away!

• Abac Restaurant & Hotel

This small boutique hotel with 15 rooms is in the city’s uptown area (the ‘zona alta’). Cosy and quiet, it has a terrace, a pool, a spa and a Michelin-starred restaurant.

The hotel is right next to the Tramvia Blau (the Blue Tram), which you can take to the top of the avenue and then enjoy lovely views of the city on a stroll along the Carretera de les Aigües.

• Hotel Neri

A hotel that appeals to the senses, right in the heart of the Gothic Quarter, on my favourite square in Barcelona: Plaça Sant Felip Neri.

It’s a historic building with a restaurant and a quiet little roof terrace from which you can see the square and the rooftops of the neighbourhood. It has only 22 rooms.

• Hotel Mercer

This hotel, with only 28 rooms, is also in the heart of the Gothic Quarter. It has a rooftop pool and a small gourmet restaurant with a cocktail bar.

Near this hotel, besides the Gothic Quarter walk I’ve already suggested, it’s worth visiting Plaça Sant Just i Pastor, home to the church that gives the square its name and to two historic palaces, Palau Requesens and Palau Moxó, from the 13th and 18th centuries respectively.
