Top Ciencia at Cosmo Caixa | Barcelona
What memories the Science Museum, now called Cosmo Caixa, brings back. The moment you walked in, you came face to face with the huge Foucault pendulum, which never stopped swinging, something that amazed me as a little girl. Well, to my surprise, I found it standing still! In fact, the whole museum was on standby, and it felt strange to see it empty. Anyway, we were there to see just a small part of it, the ‘Top Ciencia’ space, a new section devoted to communicating the latest scientific research.
It’s a small space but packed with interesting, interactive information, always linked to science but explained in a simple, easy-to-follow way. It’s divided into several sections:
The latest science news, which you can ‘surf’ on a screen.- A touch table showing the most-searched science-related words on Google, updated every fortnight.
- Screens with testimonials that tell you about the career paths open to people who have studied science (this section is open to anyone who wants to upload a video explaining their own experience).
- And finally, two modules devoted to research currently under way. Each includes a short video in which a researcher explains the project in plain language, a timeline of the project so we can see how it has evolved, a little interactive game that brings you closer to the scientists, and a questionnaire to gather people’s opinions on the subject. These two modules change every 6 months. Right now they’re about quantum cryptography (from the Institute of Photonic Sciences) and an AIDS vaccine (from IrsiCaixa).
Whether you’re more of a science person or an arts person, Cosmo Caixa offers a range of fun, educational activities that are really interesting for everyone. Those of us bloggers who went (I’m grateful to Cosmo Caixa for the chance to see this new section in a small, select group) had fun like children… and like adults! 😉
Below you’ll find a free voucher so you can enjoy this space and the whole museum. Print it out and show it at the ticket office. Come along and discover the most exciting side of science!
