To recognise the city’s shops and businesses that now have more than 60 years of history for their work in preserving their original appearance and trade, Barcelona City Council honoured them with a plaque at the entrance that reads: ‘En reconeixement als anys de servei a la ciutat’ (In recognition of years of service to the city).

All over the city you can find pharmacies, cake shops, bakeries, hat shops, jewellers, art galleries and so on with this plaque, a sign of their owners’ pride in, and respect for, the trade their forebears practised.

All these places have their own charm and date from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, so they bring back Barcelona’s years of splendour.
