Cup & Cake Barcelona

It’s with a bittersweet feeling that I say goodbye to summer, and what better cure for the post-holiday blues than brightening up the day with a little cake and a good organically grown coffee in a calm, pleasant setting?

Cup&Cake is a café that specialises in handmade American-style mini cakes. Although they’re shaped like muffins, that’s not what they are: they’re much sweeter, topped with meringue or icing, but adapted to the Mediterranean palate with less butter and less sugar. The name cup & cake is said to come from using a cup as a mould, back in the days when there weren’t any moulds.

The space is small but cosy, rustic and open-plan in style, and you share the big wooden table with other customers.

They also serve toast and sandwiches, but their speciality, and what they make with the most love, is these little cakes.
