Beardsley homeware shop, BarcelonaAnd we’re back on Carrer Petritxol once again, with its charm and its delightful shops. Among the most delightful of them, leaving aside the usual places serving hot chocolate with churros, is the Beardsley shop.

I’ve loved this shop ever since I was a little girl. I wanted to touch everything, and I remember my parents’ never-ending refrain: ‘Don’t touch anything!’ I still want to touch everything! But this time I’ve got permission.

The premises Beardsley occupies date from 1890. First it was one of Barcelona’s earliest taxi-dance halls, where you danced with young ladies in exchange for tickets (the more tickets, the longer the dance), a venture that never quite caught on; later it became the ‘pastisseria Mallorquina’, a cake shop that still exists. But it wasn’t until 1980 that Beardsley moved in.

It’s full of small and medium-sized decorative objects in a British style, it’s very cosy and it has two floors. At this time of year, in December, the lower floor fills with a thousand ways to decorate your home in true Christmas style. Christmas trees with beautiful decorations, all kinds of paper tableware sets (tablecloths, napkins, cups, plates…), little mobiles with winter scenes, and so on. A corner to lose yourself in for a while, just browsing.
